Oz chronicles life inside an experimental cell block in the Oswald Maximum Security Correctional Facility called Emerald City. Under unit manager Tim McManus (Terry Kinney) and Warden Leo Glynn (Ernie Hudson), the inmates in Em City struggle to fulfill their needs and goals. Some fight for power, others want money, and some simply want to survive long enough to make parole, or even to see tomorrow. The show gives a no-holds-barred account of prison life, with all of the plots and conflicts given context and explanation by the show’s wheelchair-bound narrator, Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau).
The enormous cast also includes Lee Tergesen, Christopher Meloni, Kirk Acevedo, J.K. Simmons, Dean Winters, B.D. Wong, Lance Reddick, Eamonn Walker, Edie Falco, and over one hundred other actors you’ll recognize from other television shows and movies. Everyone was on this show.
The first drama series to be produced by HBO, Oz pushed the limits of cable programming with its relentless use of violence, profanity, drugs and male nudity, as well as its bold portrayal of homosexuality, prison reform, and racial and religious conflict.
Basically it’s the ballsiest show ever. Literally and figuratively.

PHOEBE: Okay, um, well, first Chandler and Monica will get married—and be filthy rich, by the way. Yeah. But, um, it won’t work out.
JOEY: Wow.
PHOEBE: I know. Then, I’m gonna marry Chandler—for the money—and you’ll marry Rachel and have the beautiful kids.
JOEY: Great!
Phoebe: But then we ditch those two, and that’s when we get married. We’ll have Chandler’s money and Rachel’s kids, and getting custody will be easy because of Rachel’s drinking problem.
Joey: Oh, oh! What about Ross?
PHOEBE: I don’t want to go into the whole thing, but, um, we have words and I kill him.
